Permits for Piers & Docks on Tichigan Lake

Installing a dock or boat lift requires compliance with Wisconsin DNR and local regulations. Though many residential docks are exempt, certain sizes and modifications may need permits. Our team is available to guide you through the permitting process.

Pier Guidelines:

• Piers installed before April 2012 are generally exempt.
• New piers may qualify for exemption but must follow Waterford municipal codes.
• Permits are required if the pier exceeds size restrictions, impacts navigation or includes major structural changes.
• Piers must remain inside your riparian zone.
• Docks may extend to a 3-foot depth or accommodate a lift, with each section no wider than 6 feet.
• Platforms cannot exceed 200 sq. ft. without a permit.
• Solid-fill piers need DNR approval.
